Lara's Antique Corset Collection

1890s Corset

Inventory #0122

(sold and no longer in my possession)

Condition:

Corset is new old stock and shows no signs of ever being worn.  Scattered  across most of the corset are what appears to be light rust stains. They do not sit where the metal bones are so it appears as if the corset simply discolored a bit from age not from water. It was purchased at auction from "the General Store Museum" and had been in storage for over 100 years. Lacing is a new replacement. See photos for details.

E.C.C. brand corset with a 24" waist

Box says "Extra Finish", "Imp'd Diamond" "_59"

(I am guessing it is style number 159 or 259 possibly)

Constructed of 6 pattern pieces per side. Fabric is a single layer of cream cotton jean cut with the grain of the fabric running horizontally, around the body. Seams are sewn towards the exterior and covered with applied exterior bone casings. The dual waist tapes are applied to the exterior beneath the bone casings and is the same material as the bone casings. The lower waist tape runs along the seam of the lower pattern piece.

Corset has 13 bones per side two of which are  the 1/2" wide side steels. Additionally there are 11 shorter bust bones per side. Most bones are non magnetic and are likely baleen. The Busk, two wider side bones and two center back bones are metal. There is cream colored flossing on the upper part of the bust bone casings only.

A decorative scalloped edging is applied to the upper edge and the lower edge is bound in a tape which may be the same fabric as the body of the corset.

Center front length of 14" with a 13" dished busk. Center front also features a steel .75" wide by 12" long dished under busk to strengthen the center front. Center back length of 14" with 14 evenly spaced  grommets per side. The lace trim sticks up 1/4" past the measurements I provide.
