F.C. brand corset Style #300 by the Kalamazoo Corset Co. Kalamazoo, Michigan 32" bust / 20" waist This corset is new old stock and was never worn. Constructed with a total of 7 pattern pieces per side. Fabric is a single layer of white cotton coutil cut with the grain of the fabric running around the body, parallel to the waist. Seam allowance is sewn to the exterior and covered with the applied bone casings. The bone casings are of a cotton sateen in the same color as the coutil.
10 steel bones per side two of which are 1/2" wide. A 1" cotton waist tape reinforces the interior waist line and is held in place by the stitching of the bone casings. Decorative flossing is at the upper bust only. There is a cotton ottoman/faille type fabric applied to the upper bust to resemble fine cording. A cotton twilled tape binds the upper and lower edge. The upper edge has an applied scalloped trim sewn over the bound edge.
Center front length of 14" with a 13" dished busk. Center back length of 14" with 12 grommets per side evenly spaced at 1" apart. The scalloped cotton trim sticks up 1/4" past the measurements I provide. The busk is inserted by having the center front panel folding back over itself, towards the exterior, and sewn beneath the first bone casing. Small slits in the fabric allow the busk clasps through the fabric. The peg side of the busk features an underbusk of 1/2" wide steel and is also dished. This corset has the normal discolorations of age but is in otherwise amazing condition. Lacing is a new replacement. |
